How to glue Polyamide/Nylon (PA)

Gluing Polyamide/Nylon (PA)

Polyamide is one of the most commonly used construction materials in a wide range of industries. For example, in the machinery industry, where the low weight of polyamide makes it attractive for larger machine parts. It is also used in smaller parts such as gears and couplings. Ropes, tents, and various sports equipment can also be mentioned. Polyamide is used because it is a strong material with good wear resistance and good chemical resistance.
However, polyamide is relatively strongly attacked by most acids and especially by UV light.

Gluing PA
For optimal adhesion, the parts should always be cleaned before gluing begins.

For production, a 2-component adhesive based on methyl methacrylate (MMA) is recommended because the glue is quite resistant to many different chemicals and because the curing time is short.
If you need to bond polyamide to metal, you can alternatively use a 2-component epoxy glue with good strength. This brittle type of glue has very high strength and suffers almost no deformation or shrinkage under heavy mechanical stress.

There may also be cases where more flexible adhesives such as MS polymer glue or silicone glue can be advantageous.
These two adhesives require larger glue joints but have good adhesion to most materials.
